THE ULTRA CRATER IS A LARGE EXPANSE UNDERNEATH A YELLOW SKY. In between thick, almost impassable jungles, craters filled with green fields and alien plants lay. What appears to be metal pipe-like roots grow out the rock of crater walls. Geysers dot this alien landscape, occasionally expelling shrieking steam.[break][break]

The world is frequented by earthquakes, causing odd red monoliths of rock to quake throughout the realm. Oddly, the Ultra Thicket possesses very fertile soil. In the distance, a large mountainous expanse can be seen, though the range does not seem too high.

When Elinor woke up this morning, flying away from a literal Carpet-bombing was not what she thought she would be doing today.

But here she was.

The wings of the Hisuian Braviary beating frantically as waves of ESPER WING blasted through tree-tops. Altitude was the name of the game, it needed to get as much of it as possible as the Celesteela kill-squad flew toward them, spreading their white incendiary gas over the forest.

How’d they know it was incendiary? Simple, the moment the first bit of it touched one of the many jungle trees here, it burst into explosive flames, leaving naught but a charred tree-corpse in its wake. Elinor wasn’t about to see if Humans were exempt from that effect.

And so, here they were. Hisuian Braviary finally blasted its way through the thick tree tops. Emerging like a war torn flying beast of burden, Pokémon and trainer covered in leaves and branches. Elinor could only hope that her fellow members of the expedition were as quick to get into the air as she was. (Honestly she had no doubt they would be quicker)

But even in the air, they were not completely safe or so she thought. The Celesteela still came toward them, flying at full speed, but not changing the height at which they flew.

But in the air, Elinor could see what had angered Celesteela. In the distance the swirling mass of a SPACE-TIME DISTORTION announced its all too familiar presence.

But the question now was. Should they stop the Celesteela’s wanton destruction or simply let them pass?

Thought one: again, she should have brought a flier.

Thought two: if this was a TV show, this would be the perfect place for a freeze frame followed by a disembodied voice-over going something akin to “Now, you are probably wondering how I got here…”. What could she say? Lash had always liked those kinds of shows. Yet, when they had set out to the crater following a lead that a time-space-distortion was active there, she had not expected to star in one.

But then again, those things were always volatile, rare, and likely to, well, de-spawn at a moment’s notice, for lack of a better word. Hence, she had mounted her Lycanrock and rushed in, regardless of a lack of preparation and scouting. Granted, that was kind of how she had gotten stuck in this form to begin with. But she had seen when climbing that mountain that doing it properly could just get you stuck watching it disperse – oh, that word was indeed better – right in front of you.

And she wasn’t going to let this happen again. Hence, the rushing in. Her Rock-type Ride was deftly manoeuvring through the jungle, seeing that familiar atmospheric flicker in the distance, dodging geysers here, there and everywhere. This was not a gentle place, so they had both come here with game-face on. Being someone with a lot of experience with Pokemon, Lash made sure to direct her own to dodge wild ones.

For the most part. After all, she didn’t know every single Pokemon yet. So, when Lycanroc hopped from one branch of a strange tree-like rock formation to the next and things started to shake, they briefly stopped, thinking it was an earthquake or something. Staying put and holding onto something was a viable thing to do in such a situation.
Less so when you were holding onto a living rocket ship. But they only realized that when it was already taking off, carrying them with upwards, skywards. Lycanroc frantically scrambled to dig its claws into the smooth metal somehow, as Lash held onto it for dear life.

Because, well, that was what she did. And hence, the freeze-frame. Captured probably when the Cele-Rocket passed by a not-rocket woman riding her breviary in mid-air. But Lash didn’t quite notice that. She had her eyes closed for the sake of protection against wind resistance. And absolutely no other reason whatsoever.

A burst of exasperated, stressed out Spanish escaping him as Nike shot forward ahead of the billowing waves of fire and smoke. Memo was couched low over her neck, gripping the arm that Alex had wrapped around his waist, as Nike used the thermals of hot air rising off the incendiary mess behind them to rise faster.

A wave of fumes, iridescent in the air, made the space between Memo, Alex, and Elinor Anderson waver, like a mirage. Memo pulled his shirt up over his nose, the burning smell acrid and heavy in his lungs.

“I thought we were here on a search and rescue operation?!”

The last word was noticeably drawn out, simply because Frog had insisted on taking the reins this time—and after a bit of a tiny squabble as to what Pokémon they were going to be bringing along today, he quietly decided to pack along the Wandering Stormbringer just in case shit hit the fan.

Which it would inevitably do.

“Do you see anything out of the ordinary yet, Miss Elinor?!” he hollered over the roaring expansion of the noxious, acrid-stench of gas that was intent on following them… and then he remembered that his boyfriend was not the greatest fan of fire in any way, shape or form.

(Yes, he’d seen the burn wounds, and yes, he was alarmed.)

“Have you found any sign of our missing person yet?!” he followed up a few moments later, hiding his face in his boyfriend’s shoulder because holy hellballs on a stick, flying on Nike’s back wasn’t as smooth as it was on his own Flygon Mausika’s back!

The Carpet bombing continued. The Celesteela flew unhindered or unopposed through the air destroying everything in their wake as they intended to blow the Distortion away.

Elinor heard the voice of Alexei Ivanov through their communications device. “No sign of them yet…” Elinor didn’t get to finish as a Celesteela with an unusual cargo flew right past them. This would’ve been a real good moment for a slow-motion shot.

Wait, was that a person? The look had been brief, but as she turned her head it certainly seemed to be. With a quick gentle tap Elinor turned the Hisuian Braviary around and set into pursuit of the flying one carrying Lasciel Elis.

“Scratch that, I think I might’ve found them.” Elinor informed. “You two keep an eye on the Celesteela.”

While she hadn’t intended to bark orders like that, she figured it might be wise for them to keep on eye on the destructive squad that by now was just about to reach the distortion.

The Hisuian Braviary was quick to catch up to the human-carrying Celesteela, positioning itself such that it would be rather easy to jump onto it. "You look like you could need a hand!" Elinor would yell, though wind. wingbeat and general Celesteela noises, would work against her voice.

What were the odds? Scratch that. She knew they were fairly low. And while she did briefly consider wondering as to why other people were here, Lash swept that thought away. It mattered not why and how lucky that was. That woman and her Braviary were here. Which was good enough. “Lycanroc, see that one? Discard and draw.” It was a set pattern she had trained with it. Granted, she had been bigger and older then, but fortunately, whatever had happened to her had not happened to it. That Pokemon still knew how it was done. Hence, it growled lightly as it took aim.

In the meantime, Lash prepared herself for her own part in this play. It was dangerous, certainly, but in the spur of the moment, it seemed better than just flying one of the Pokemon into a distortion. That would only bring her higher, further lowering the chances of survival. Best to take the better ones she had right then. Holding onto the Pokeball tightly, she braced.
Then, Lycanroc jumped. Its timing and aim were good enough. Immediately after jumping off, it turned, leaving Lash to face the newcomer. Trusting that one, she clicked the ball, recalling Lycanroc to make this all go smoother while hoping she could catch the small body thrown her way. And that they had not built up too much momentum doing this.

Memo urged Nike forward. She shot up and arched over the Celesteela, giving her a better vantage point. A smaller one came close to careening in towards the UB currently clung to by a smallish human figure and Nike knocked the adolescent monster away with a dragon tail.

A rippling wave of rainbow-hued, gaseous fumes buoyed up from where the little Celesteela was now shooting away from them. Memo squeezed his eyes against the warmth, trying not to inhale it, but it burned his lungs anyway, for the split second before Nike shot out of its path. He got a little light headed and squeezed Alex’s arm harder.

“What are they doing?” He asked, slightly panicked. “LET GO OF THE ULTRA BEAST! WE’RE HERE TO HELP!”

“Give me a moment!” he gasped as he unhid his face from his boyfriend’s shoulder—it was like several things happening all at once.

The strange ornery-looking Braviary that Miss Elinor was riding had shot ahead of them, and then there was—

“Not right now, you big-ass shite!” he yelled, hesitant on letting go of the grip he had on the other man’s arms—however he had to free at least one of his hands and rummaged around his pockets (the power of hammerspace-fu!) and pulled out a battered, scuffed Friend Ball before literally tossing it forward and watching as the blue plumage of Kyouya the Braviary materialized from the red beam of light.

“Go help Miss Elinor!” he shouted at the avian, never mind if his boyfriend got a full ear of his holler. Whoops!

The avian let out a surprised shriek at the danged thing that was flying alongside them, however sped off to tail the strange Braviary to help out as needed.

The woman was thrown from the Celesteela. With some quick mid-flight adjustments the Hisuian Braviary was quick to position itself. Luckily, Elinor was equally quick to catch the person.

Unfortunately for all parties involved the sudden addition of weight caused the Hisuian Braviary to lose control of its flight path until another Braviary, this time shiny, joined him in correcting its flight.

It made happy Braviary noises as a thank you.

And with Lash on board Elinor and her flying partner would rejoin with Alexei and Guillarmo. While doing so Elinor thought it proper to introduce herself. “The names Elinor, and who are and why were you on that thing?”

A bit of small talk surely wouldn’t hurt.

By now the Celesteela kill-squad had reached their target and begun bombing it to hell and back with their incendiary gas. Luckily it didn’t seem to affect the distortion much.

The world needed to stop spinning, first. Then, small talk. This body really was not made for mid-air maneuvers like this. Well, not yet. She still remembered that aerial battle with a Charizard two years ago. She had managed to endure that one much better. But that had been her in her prime. Not her in her…formative phase? Yeah, let’s call it that.

Lash sighed, holding onto the stranger in front of her after having been flung onto the Braviary. That probably was the safest space for now. Not that she was too scared now, being on an actual ride Pokemon for the time being. One that did not, apparently, seek to throw itself into the sun.
But that wasn’t the important part, anyway. Lash shook her head, trying to get back on track there. “I am Lash, and I evidently did not plan on hitching a ride on that thing in the first place. That just kind of happened,” she replied, a palpable pout to her voice. She did not quite being rescued. Well, she did not like needing rescue. Getting it when needed was probably good.

But being in that kind of situation was still bad, so she was not exactly happy about it.

[attr="class","wownewmain"]He managed to release a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding once the small figure was apparently safely in the direction of Elinor Anderson. He drove Nike in closer, trying to avoid the small chemtrails of rainbow gas as much as possible, unable to avoid the lightheadedness that seemed to be lingering between his eyes.

“Can we go home now?” he asked, quietly, audible only to Alexei Ivanov; his gaze was drawn down to the fields of fire bursting beneath him, and if he looked too hard, it was Fortree that replaced the scenery of this hellcursed land.

But he swallowed, and drew Nike up next to Lash.

“Are you alright?”

Thankfully the ‘flying human’ scenario was fixed with his Braviary’s timely appearance and the two eventually caught up—

“What’s the matter?” he hummed back quietly—he could feel the heat radiating from beneath where they were, before realizing that they were now with the two ladies—well, Miss Elinor and the kid actually.

He then turned to the ‘youngest’ of their current party and asked, “How’d you end up in here anyway?”

It was—strange. Didn’t the Fortree Ohana keep an eye on the Rift back outside? Keep unwanted incidents (like this) from happening? Unless…

“Uh… we better clear out, there’s like, a distortion nearby and—”

• Bird is worried for Frog and wants to try and angle so they can clear out now that they’ve got their missing person found, however—
• He then asks Lash a question—how did she end up in here anyway?
• like, the distortion is still there why ain’t we talking about the Copperajah in the room?!

“Ah fair point.” Elinor mused. The beating wings of her Hisuian Braviary provided a gentle rhythm to listen to as they joined up with the rest of the group.

And for a moment Elinor considered Alexei’s words. Pondering that perhaps they really ought to clear out, bring the kid to safety and call it a day.

But then she saw something glinting at the edge of the distortion. Something definitely not a part of it, metallic in shine as the sun shone upon it.
